Light Puzzle Solutions
The Minoan Sphere
How the island's light puzzles are built, what the Minoan sphere does, and where the ancient machinery fits in.

Short answer: the Minotaur's Island is a maze built — in the fiction — by the architect Daedalus, and its locks are light rather than keys. Sophia's handheld prism bends light around her; the stolen Minoan sphere does it at the scale of a room or a machine. When you are stuck, the question is almost always "where does the light need to go", not "what have I failed to pick up".
The two tools
The prism. Sophia's own, and the one she calls her greatest treasure. Its described uses are refracting — channelling the light of a nearby fire to create an area of light around her — and burning grass to make smoke. It is personal-scale: it changes the space immediately around you.
The Minoan sphere. Stolen on the island and the central tool for solving the island's ancient mysteries. It manipulates light on a much larger scale and is what wakes the Minoan machinery. Where the prism changes your immediate surroundings, the sphere changes the room.
Knowing which tool a puzzle wants is usually the first half of the answer. A problem about your own visibility or a guard's line of sight is a prism problem; a problem about a mechanism that will not move is a sphere problem.
The second mechanic: the past changes the present
Light is not the only lever. The game runs a dual-timeline system that jumps between Sophia's era and ancient Minoa, and actions taken in the ancient past directly ripple forward to change the paths and battles Sophia faces in the present.
That makes some obstacles unsolvable in the room you are standing in. If a present-day route is closed and nothing in the space responds to light, the answer may be in the other timeline rather than in front of you. How much control you have over the switching, and whether you can return to a past section at will, is to be confirmed.
A method for the room you are stuck in
- Find the light source. Fires, shafts of daylight and Minoan machinery all count.
- Find the receiver. Something in the room is waiting to be lit — a lens, a mechanism, a marked surface.
- Work out what is in the way. Most solutions are about redirecting or clearing a path rather than adding something new.
- Ask which timeline the answer lives in. If nothing here responds, the obstacle may have been set in the past.
- Then move. The restless presence that stalks the depths tracks Sophia and forces a steady pace, so solving from cover beats solving in the open.
Where the set-piece puzzles sit
The published chapter list is a reliable map of where the puzzle density is, because the subchapter names are descriptive. Reading it as a structure rather than a spoiler:
| Chapter | Subchapters that read as puzzle content |
|---|---|
| 3 — Those Before Us | The Start of the Trials |
| 4 — From Hell It Rose | Puzzles and Traps |
| 5 — Desolation It Wrought | The Four Symbols |
| 6 — What Lies Beneath | Minoan Machinery, The Architect |
| 10 — Parallel Paths | Daedalus' Workshop, The Test Trials, A Light That Burns |
| 11 — Patera | The Last Lens, In the Bowels of the Mechanism |
| 12 — Fading Light | The Beam |
| 13 — As One | The Labyrinth, Illusions, One Last Trial |
Two patterns are worth noticing. The trials are introduced early (Chapter 3) and paid off late (Chapter 13), which is how a game teaches a language and then tests it. And the vocabulary is consistent — lenses, beams, symbols, mechanisms — which supports the idea that this is one system deepening rather than a series of unrelated brain-teasers.
We are not going to reconstruct solutions from these titles. They tell you where the puzzles are, not how they work.
Why there are no step-by-step solutions here yet
Every individual puzzle solution on this page is currently to be confirmed. This site does not run on first-hand playthroughs, and a puzzle walkthrough is the single worst place to guess: a wrong step does not just waste time, it convinces you the correct approach is impossible.
When solutions go up they will be layered — a nudge, then a stronger hint, then the full answer — so you can take the smallest amount of help that unsticks you. Each will go up individually as it is verified, so expect this page to fill in gradually rather than appear complete overnight.
What we will not do
We will not publish "solutions" assembled from mod descriptions or guesswork.
One aggregator page advertises a cheat that bypasses the light puzzles entirely by granting an unlimited light source, sold through its own tool. We could not corroborate that tool's claims in any first-party source or in the Nexus mod listings, and the same page makes several statements about the game that contradict what we could verify — so we do not treat it as evidence of anything, including of what the puzzles require. Our reasoning is on the mods page.
If you are stuck right now
- Re-read the notebook entry for your current objective — it is the game's own hint system, and the exploration page covers how to use it.
- Look for what is unlit rather than what is locked.
- Check whether the way forward is a climb or a squeeze rather than a door.
- Consider that the obstacle may belong to the other timeline.
- Keep moving while you think.
Still to be confirmed
Per-puzzle solutions, whether the sphere has upgrade tiers, whether puzzles have optional or bonus solutions, how timeline switching is triggered, and whether any puzzles are missable. All unverified, all marked as such.
