Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy System Requirements

PC Specs

The official minimum and recommended PC specs, what the two presets actually promise, and the four requirements buried in the footnotes.

Info checked · September 5, 2026

Short answer: you need at least a GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 5500 XT with 6 GB of VRAM, a Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i3-12100, 16 GB of RAM and 75 GB of free SSD space to run Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy at 1080p and 30 FPS on the Low preset. For 1080p at 60 FPS on Ultra, Asobo asks for an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT with 8 GB of VRAM and a Ryzen 5 5600X or Core i5-12400F. Both tiers require Windows 10 or 11 64-bit and DirectX 12.

Minimum requirements

ComponentRequirement
OSWindows 10/11 64-bit
CPUAMD Ryzen 3 3100 / Intel Core i3-12100
RAM16 GB
GPU6 GB VRAM — Radeon RX 5500 XT / GeForce GTX 1060
DirectXVersion 12
Storage75 GB available, SSD required
Target1920x1080, 30 FPS, "Low" preset

This is the published floor, not a comfortable configuration. A GTX 1060 is a 2016 card, so the CPU side of the table is the part that surprises people: a Core i3-12100 is far newer than the GPU it sits beside.

Note what does not change between the two tiers: RAM stays at 16 GB, storage stays at 75 GB, and the SSD requirement applies to both. The only things that move are the CPU, the GPU and the VRAM budget.

The four requirements hidden in the footnotes

Steam's notes field carries requirements that the headline table does not, and they are the ones most likely to catch you out:

  • An SSD is required. Not recommended — required, at both tiers.
  • A CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads is required. A four-core chip without SMT or Hyper-Threading is below spec even if its clock speed looks fine.
  • A GPU supporting DirectX 12.1 and Shader Model 6.6 is required. This is the quiet gatekeeper for older cards.
  • 75 GB of free space, which is the install size you should plan around before patches.

If your machine fails any one of these, matching the listed GPU will not save you.

Asobo attached a performance target to each preset, which is more useful than the usual bare table. Minimum hardware is specified for 1920x1080 at 30 FPS on Low. Recommended hardware is specified for 1920x1080 at 60 FPS on Ultra.

Neither tier says anything about 1440p or 4K. There is no published target for those resolutions, so any 1440p or 4K figure you see quoted is someone's measurement rather than a specification. We mark the official 1440p and 4K requirements to be confirmed.

Where our two sources disagree

System Requirements Lab lists the same CPUs, GPUs, RAM and 75 GB storage as Steam, which is a useful cross-check. It differs in one detail: it lists Shader Model 6.0, while the Steam page's own notes say Shader Model 6.6.

When a third-party database and the developer's own store page disagree, we take the store page. Plan around Shader Model 6.6 and DirectX 12.1 support. If your card is close to that line, check its feature level before you buy rather than trusting an aggregator.

Upscaling and frame generation

The game ships with upscaling and a frame generation option in its graphics menu, which matters a lot if you are near the minimum tier. In a modding walkthrough published by a PC creator, the settings menu exposes a Frame Generation toggle, and the creator reports roughly 70-80 FPS at 1080p on Medium with DLSS Quality, rising to about 100 FPS with in-game frame generation enabled.

Treat that as a single uncontrolled data point: the creator's full hardware configuration is not stated, and it is not a benchmark run. The complete list of supported upscalers and whether DLSS frame generation is offered natively are to be confirmed.

A quick self-check before you buy

  1. Is your GPU at least a GTX 1060 or RX 5500 XT with 6 GB of VRAM, and does it support DX12.1 / Shader Model 6.6?
  2. Does your CPU have 4 cores and 8 threads?
  3. Do you have 16 GB of RAM? There is no 8 GB configuration in the spec.
  4. Is the drive you will install to an SSD with 75 GB free?
  5. Are you targeting 1080p? If you want 1440p or higher, the published table cannot tell you what you need.

Four yes answers put you inside the published minimum. If your parts sit between the two tiers, expect to land between 30 and 60 FPS at 1080p and to spend time in the settings menu.

Between the two tiers the honest expectation is somewhere between 30 and 60 FPS at 1080p, and the settings menu is where you close the gap. Frame generation is the biggest single lever the game gives you, and upscaling at Quality is the next one; both are in the graphics menu rather than hidden in a config file.

Beyond that, the game has more graphics options than the preset names suggest. A community configuration mod exposes sharpening, depth of field and lens flare as separate toggles, plus terrain texture, character quality and variety settings that are not surfaced in the default menu. That is a reasonable map of what the engine is spending frames on, even if you never install the mod.

One more PC-specific note: players on the Xbox Game Pass build reported traversal stutter caused by shader compilation, and the community response was a pre-generated shader cache. If your frame times are spiky rather than uniformly low, that is a different problem from being under-specified, and buying a faster GPU will not fix it.

What we could not verify

  • Steam Deck performance and any Deck Verified status: to be confirmed.
  • PS5 and Xbox Series X|S performance modes and resolutions: to be confirmed.
  • Ray tracing support and its cost: to be confirmed.
  • VRAM behaviour at 1440p and 4K: to be confirmed.
  • Post-launch patch changes to any of the above: to be confirmed.

If you are running the game on PC and hitting shader compilation stutter, the mods page covers a community workaround, and the engine page explains what the game is built on.
