Info checked · September 5, 2026
Short answer: Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a single-player action-adventure developed by Asobo Studio and published by Focus Entertainment. It released on August 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You play as Sophia — the smuggler Requiem players already know — fifteen years before that game, on an island where a stolen Minoan sphere, a sword and a notebook are your three tools. Steam lists 36 achievements and 1 player.
The one-paragraph version
Sophia travels to the Minotaur's Island, a maze the fiction attributes to the architect Daedalus, and finds her present-day journey tangled with the ancient Minoan past. The game alternates between close melee combat, puzzles built on redirecting light, and exploration under pressure from something that hunts the island's depths. The story runs on two timelines at once, linked by the Macula, and what happens in the ancient past changes the paths Sophia walks in her own century.

Where it sits in the series
This is the third A Plague Tale game and a prequel-by-perspective rather than a sequel. Innocence and Requiem followed Amicia and Hugo de Rune; Resonance hands the camera to Sophia, who debuted in Requiem as a supporting character and is playable here for the first time.
The community wiki puts her at 22 during Resonance and 37 during Requiem, which lines up with the official framing of fifteen years earlier. It also dates her arrival at the Minotaur's Island to 1333. That date is community-sourced, not official, and one aggregator page we checked gives a different year — so we treat the exact in-fiction year as unconfirmed and use "fifteen years before Requiem" instead.
Do you need to play the earlier games first?
No. Sophia's story here is self-contained enough to start with, and the game is built around her past rather than the de Rune siblings' journey.
What Requiem players get is recognition rather than required knowledge: they already know who Sophia becomes, they have met the Macula as a concept, and Amicia appears in the credited cast. Coming in fresh costs you those echoes, not the plot. More on the character on our Sophia page, and on who performs each role on the cast page.
What is actually new about it
The series began as survival-stealth, where the answer to a threat was to hide from it. Resonance changes the verb. Sophia was raised among brigands with a sword in her hand and is described as a trained, physical and offensive fighter who parries attacks and lands heavy strikes. Stealth is still available when you want to lie low; it is one option rather than the only one.
Three other things are new:
- A light-bending toolkit. Sophia's handheld prism — she calls it her greatest treasure — can refract nearby firelight into an area of light around her, and can set grass alight for smoke. The stolen Minoan sphere does the same job at the scale of a room or a machine.
- A hunter. A restless presence stalks the depths, tracks Sophia's movement and forces a steady pace. You solve problems while moving, not at leisure.
- Two timelines. The game jumps between Sophia's era and ancient Minoa, following two heroes whose fates are linked, with the past reshaping the present.
The full breakdown of how those systems play is on our gameplay page.
Structure and length
Press and community listings describe 14 chapters, each divided into subchapters that can be replayed individually — Chapter 14, What Remains, is the epilogue. We treat that as aggregated reporting rather than an official figure. The complete list, subchapter by subchapter, is on the chapters page.
Average completion time is to be confirmed. There is a widely-quoted figure circulating in low-quality aggregator content, and we are not repeating it until it comes from somewhere we trust.
Technology, and one deliberate choice
The game runs on Zouna, Asobo Studio's in-house proprietary engine — the same lineage behind the studio's earlier work rather than a licensed engine. Asobo has said publicly that it chose not to use generative AI in development, seeing it as a threat to creativity and authenticity. Producer Eric Chort framed generative AI as a "choice" rather than a "solution" for a team of around 70 people competing in a AAA space.
That team size is worth holding onto when you judge the game's scope: this is not a thousand-person production. Our engine page goes further into Zouna and what it means for PC performance.
Can your PC run it?
The Steam listing publishes both tiers. Minimum is a Ryzen 3 3100 or Core i3-12100, 16 GB of RAM, and a 6 GB card such as a GTX 1060 or RX 5500 XT, targeting 30 FPS at 1080p on Low. An SSD is required, and the game wants 75 GB free.
The full table, including the recommended tier and the DirectX 12.1 and Shader Model 6.6 notes, is on our system requirements page.
Is there a mod scene?
On PC, yes — it appeared within days of release, and it covers combat assists, ultrawide and HDR fixes, quality-of-life tweaks and a large number of fan translations. Console players have nothing here. See the mods page for what exists and what to avoid.
What this wiki will not tell you
We do not publish completion times, chapter walkthroughs, mod compatibility claims or redeem codes that we cannot trace to a source we have checked. Where a number is missing, you will see "To be confirmed" instead of a guess.
Still to be confirmed
Game Pass and subscription availability, average completion time, difficulty settings and what they change, the number of endings, whether a New Game Plus mode exists, PS5 trophy and Xbox achievement counts, and the official chapter list. None of those are answered by the sources we have checked, so none of them are answered here.
